Meet the Team

General Manager – Josh Mclean

Josh has been in many leadership roles for over a decade and is also a keen golfer. Josh found himself wanting a change; one that he would be proud to tell his kids about when they grew up – so when the GM opportunity presented itself at Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club the challenge was exactly what he was looking for. A member of the Club for 8 years he has a passion to support the people around him in their own growth, professionally and personally. Josh has a strong desire to make Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club the best place it can be for his team, the members, and all guests.

Chair – David Hunter

David has been involved with Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club for more than 25 years, beginning as the Principal Engineer for the overall Sanctuary Lakes project. He has been a Director of private companies and government agencies and continues to provide advice to clients on a part time basis. A keen golfer, always looking to improve his game and support the Club where he can.

Captain – Shaun Smith

Shaun recently retired following a long, successful career in Research and Leadership at CSIRO. He has been a 7-Day Gold and Platinum Member since 2000 playing regularly on weekends and now through the week. In 2011 he started volunteering his time at the golf club as a member of our Junior Committee where he first got involved in Junior Programs and Junior Pennant. In 2017 he joined our Match and Greens Committee as Vice-Captain, and in 2021 became Club Captain. Through this time a focus has been on improving the golfing experience for all our members and ensuring that our club is fully inclusive where everyone is welcome. Shaun is a champion of our Junior and Women’s programs and was instrumental in the club becoming a Signatory of the R&A Women in Golf Charter.

Course Superintendent – Josh Lacey

Josh started out in the turf industry in 2012 at Maryborough Golf Club in central Victoria, completing certificate III in sports turf management at The Gordon Tafe in Geelong. He became Superintendent of Maryborough in 2019. In 2022, he decided it was time for a change and moved from the country to the city to take a step back from the Superintendent role and started working at Sanctuary Lakes. A year later, Josh found himself back in a Supers role managing a team of 9. Josh loves being outside and being able to prepare a playing surface to a high standard for everyone to enjoy.
